Learn about, review, and discuss in-course assessment in this online minicourse for new and experienced instructors. We will reflect on why we assess, including how assessment communicates our values, promotes critical thinking, and invites or inhibits deep understanding as we explore the complementary roles of formative and summative assessment types. Of course, we will have to discuss how AI is changing everything and how we can design assessments in this reshaped environment, but don't expect easy answers.
The course runs the week leading up to the start of the spring semester. While there will not be any synchronous components, participants are expected to complete activities and engage in regular discussions.
