Janet Smith

Director, Operations and Communications

Janet Smith serves as the Director of Operations and Communication at the University of Arizona with the University Center for Teaching, Assessment, and Technology. She provides operational vision and support to all the teams within the unit and loves helping her colleagues turn their programming ideas and goals into reality.

Previously, she managed a multitiered and collaborative quality assurance process, including Quality Matters, to ensure that online courses were designed for student success and engagement by working with partners across campus to integrate best practices around course design, copyright, UDL, and accessibility into the instructional design process. She holds multiple roles for Quality Matters and is an active member of the Online Learning Consortium.

Janet received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, her master's degree in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Northern Arizona University, and a graduate certificate in Educational Technology from Northern Arizona University.

When she’s not working you can find her helping out with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, practicing yoga, or reading a book.
