Through the Quality Matters Internal Review (QMIR) process, we recognize exceptional course design. When a course meets these rigorous standards, it is awarded an official QMIR badge—a mark of distinction you can proudly display on your course homepage and that we feature on our website.
QMIR Process
If you have taught your online course several times and are happy with it, you may request a QMIR for your course. Simply fill out the request form to get started.
When your course is ready for review, you will receive an email notification to get started. You will then be asked to provide your course syllabus and submit a Course Review Worksheet, sent directly from Quality Matters (technology@qualitymatters.org). This worksheet provides background information and context for the reviewers and takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
The review process typically spans three to four weeks, concluding with a final status of either Met or Not Met. During this stage, your involvement as an instructor is minimal; beyond answering an occasional clarifying question about your course, the instructor does not participate in the active evaluation.
If your course receives a ‘Met’ designation, you will receive notification from Quality Matters and our QM coordinator will be in touch to discuss the digital certification and badge.
If your course receives a Not Met designation, you have 14 weeks to revise it based on reviewer recommendations. Optional support from us is available during this time. Once your course meets the standards, you will receive a QM seal for your course homepage.
The QM seal expires after three years. We will contact you to schedule a recertification evaluation.
If you are interested in implementing the QM Rubric independently, the Self-Review option offers a structured way to evaluate your own courses. After logging into MyQM, you will complete a guided worksheet to assess your course design. For detailed instructions, please refer to the Quality Matters self-review tutorial or contact us.
