During this 3-week, asynchronous online workshop, graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) will learn best practices for designing and teaching online courses. Each module will lead participants through a different topic related to online instruction. GTAs will achieve the following learning outcomes by the end of the workshop:

  1. Explain the differences between an online course and a face-to-face course that has been uploaded to an online space.
  2. Apply the principles of backward design to course creation.
  3. Write learning outcomes that adhere to best practices.
  4. Describe the 3 types of engagement and how they apply to an online course.
  5. Give appropriate examples of aligned learning activities.
  6. Design learning with UDL in mind.
  7. Explain how UDL, accessibility, and Quality Matters play a role in online course design.
  8. Recognize several best practices in online course design.

No prior experience in online teaching or course development is required to participate. This workshop is open to all graduate students at the University of Arizona. All participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion.
