How do we set the stage for a semester of engaged learning on the first day of class? What are some of the strategies from various disciplines and contexts that instructors use to excite students? How do we link early course engagement with motivation and learning? In this workshop, participants discuss with facilitators and in breakout rooms concrete practices for the first day(s) of class that promotes a positive learning environment and foster connections between students, between students and instructor, and between students and course content. Participants will leave with tangible resources and ideas to implement for Spring 2023.
